Why is Lynn Jenkins not spending money?
We have been asking ourselves that question all day. For someone who is getting soundly beaten in all the polls, including her own, why is she not spending her money?
Does she think that Ryun will beat her in the primary and then lose in the general, therefore she wants to sit on $500k for 2010? Or is she waiting for a last minute media buy, which seems impossible at this point. Does she have something on Ryun that she thinks is too much for him to respond to if she drops it last minute? We have been tossing around options all day. Mark Foley? Tom DeLay? Jack Abramoff?
Maybe Tom DeLay. Ryun, like a lot of rank and file House Republicans, took money from ARMPAC, DeLay’s PAC. Nothing really big there, though. As has been noted in a few of the political blogs, Ryun and DeLay are not close. We actually made a few calls back to DC and this was confirmed. As one source said, “Maybe coldly polite. They don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things.” As we look through FEC filings, Boyda has taken a lot of money from labor unions (what is the tie there?) and Lynn Jenkins has taken quite a bit of money from pro-choice Republican causes (while running around saying she is pro-life. Odd.)
Maybe Mark Foley? Why, though? Because Ryun lived across the street from him and they hosted two fundraisers together? As over the top conservative as he is, we are pretty sure Ryun would never condone Foley’s lifestyle. In fact, when asked about it after 2006, Ryun was very straightforward in talking about Mark Foley and was done no favors by what we feel was slanted reporting by the Cap-Journal.
Maybe Jack Abramoff? We took a long look at this one. Apparently Ryun only took a one time $250 contribution from the disgraced lobbyist and that was in his first term. The major bill that Abramoff spent most of his efforts on, Internet gambling, Ryun voted against him. We dug a little deeper. Is is the house deal? We actually ran this past a few real estate agents. Their response was along the lines of laughter and, “That was really a story? Where? Because he paid over the assessed value and had to remodel? He probably should have had an agent involved instead of doing it on his own, but that happens all the time.”
So we don’t know. Maybe Lynn Jenkins has a silver bullet. We’ll find out soon enough.
